Room in the Inn

A Program to Help the Homeless
in the Charlotte
Metropolitan Area

Charlotte shelters alone cannot meet the increased need for feeding and sheltering all of the thousands of homeless people in Charlotte in the winter months. The Room in the Inn program is designed to help our homeless neighbors by providing food and shelter in churches, synagogues, and colleges in the area.

At the Unitarian Universalist Church of Charlotte we offer a warm dinner, a bed, and breakfasts to six people, every Sunday evening from the beginning of December through the end of March.

The Room at the Inn Program was a huge success at our church last year. This coming winter there will be a growing need for help, due to the worsening economic times and the increasingly high rate of unemployment.

Our guests sleep on beds in the Fellowship Hall. Our teams help with a variety of tasks, such as:

  1. Helping set up tables and beds Sunday after coffee hour.
  2. Driving guests from the Urban Ministry Center and back (especially needed on Monday morning.)
  3. Welcoming the guests and showing them around.
  4. Helping prepare and/or serve dinner and eating with our guests Sunday evening.
  5. Preparing and serving breakfast Morning morning.
  6. Staying overnight to assist our guests.
  7. Cleaning up on Monday morning.

You can sign up to volunteer once, or as many times as you wish.

If you are interested in helping with Room in the Inn, please email Malinda Kleucker (mfkleucker@cs.com) or come to the Social Action table in the Fellowship Hall after the Sunday service.

Your help can save lives. Please sign up today!

THANK YOU! Without your help, the six neighbors staying tonight would not have a warm place to sleep and possibly no food to eat. By reaching out and taking action, you have truly made a difference in our community!
